If I knew how to bake, I’d make a delicious humble pie

August 5, 2012 · Oliver Gray

My latest post made the “Freshly Pressed” page this weekend.

There is some saying that a picture is worth a certain amount of words or something. To that end, I present this:

One of these is not like the others.

I am honored, humbled, amazed, astounded, elated, and ecstatic that so many people came to read my little site and say so many nice things.

I don’t have a speech prepared, so I  guess I just want to pass along a huge thank you to the readers who have been supporting me for the last few years, and pass a long a huge welcome to any and all new readers.

This has been an awesome day, all thanks to the awesome WordPress community. You guys made this writer’s year.

-Oliver

How many hits did you get that day?

Joe, I got 861 the first day, 1206 the second. I normally average about ~100, so this was incredibly awesome and filled me with all kinds of nice warm fuzzy feelings. Like a microfiber blanket, or something.

    dear Oliver,
    I am INSPIRED.
    Beyond belief.
After forever (5 months) I’d started to give up my dreams of fresh pressing.
    So.
The dream is back, baby. :)
    Thanks, and CONGRATS!!!! :)

      Don’t feel bad!

If you look, I started this blog in May of 2010. I’ve been pretty consistently posting (even more so of late) and obviously didn’t get Freshly Pressed until very recently.

I think it’s like dating; whenever you’re actively looking for someone, you can never find some one. The second you’re too busy, Mr. or Mrs. Perfect appears out of nowhere.

Just keep writing. Good things will come.

    Oliver,
Do you care if I use your comment….THIS ONE:
can’t second this enough. It took me years of weekly posts to really find my groove. I had years of ~15 hits a week, but I just kept plugging away, for the sake of my writing and well…fun. In that time, I matured, my writing matured, and my readership grew. It’s like fine wine or something…..in my blog? I was hoping to inspire others…like I am! And I loved your words! :)

Oliver, your blog is a hoot! I love your goofy analogies–they make the abstract creative look so wonderfully concrete. My high school students need to see that. And your stats completely cracked me up. I normally range in the 20′s, but one day I had 600 hits on an old post “Bug of the day” (It must have been the photo.) My graph looked like yours. It filled my heart with affirmation…until I noticed that it made the rest of my stats look so puny. Sigh. Thanks for the laughs. Kathy
