Attention all pen-wranglers, all ink-smugglers, all red-eyed, midnight desk-jockeys: there are only 6-days left to enter the Literature and Libation Longhand Fiction writing contest!
Any kind of story is welcome, as long as some part of it – notes, outlines, bios, a single sentence – was written by a pen, on some paper. Do you have 300-1200 words to spare? Win some free editing! Free wordly advice from a person who spends most of his day rolling around in verbs like a cat in a fresh batch of nip.
Submit before Monday, July 15, at 11:59 PM, EST, and your story will be featured on the blog, alongside the other entries, to be read and loved and voted for.
Two winners – one selected by the collective decision making power of the blogging public, the other by the collective decision making power of all my creeping craziness – will receive editorial feedback on their story and another piece of their choosing.
Don’t be shy! Submit anything you got! A story you jotted down on the train, a tale you wove in the middle of a boring work meeting, even a single innocent line turned entire epic narrative arc. The more the merrier, the merrier the better.
I look forward to reading your entries!

Can’t lie. None in longhand. 😦
But that’s the fun! Change it up a little bit. Try something you don’t normally do, or haven’t done in a while.
You’ve still got 6 days to write another one, if you’re so interested. 🙂
Okay you convinced me. do I send it in as a scanned format or retype?
You can just take a picture of your handwritten stuff and include it with your post (like I did on the main contest page). You don’t have to write the entire draft longhand, but you certainly can!
thanks
Does it have to be finished? And do you just want a picture of the story? Or do you want a story all typed out, but you’ll take our word for it that it was written long-hand at some point?
Oh, sorry, just read the other comments…
No problem! It should be a complete story, but some of it should have been written on paper at some point. A photo or scan of the paper will suffice. The full rules are in the original post at: https://literatureandlibation.com/2013/07/01/writing-contest-longhand-fiction/
The idea was just to get people writing in ways they might not usually write, change things up a little 🙂
Thanks, Oliver. I’ll give it a go!
Ack! Trying to find something UNDER 1200 words is hard!
Ah, but that’s all part of the fun!
My only story written in long hand. Though it is more of a travel account than a creative story.

Thanks for your entry! I fixed the comment for you 🙂
Thanks!
